Saddlebrook Prep Goes Common Core

Saddlebrook Preparatory School is proud to announce that it is implementing a significant national change in education called the Common Core State Standards. Teachers, administrators, parents, and community members are working together to deliver this visionary approach to learning to our students, who come from all over the world and the United States.

In adopting the Common Core State Standards, Governors and state Commissioners of Education from 46 states, three territories and the District of Columbia chose an approach to learning that clearly defines the knowledge and skills students must master to be college and career ready when they graduate from high school.

The National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers, in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and education experts, spearheaded the development of these standards. They establish clear and consistent goals for learning that will prepare our children for world-class performance. Additionally, our student athletes can continue learning while away from campus through online texts, interactive assignments, and real-world research.

The Common Core State Standards focus on proficiency, complexity, and independence. Rich, provocative critical reading and writing are part of the curriculum not only in the English language classroom but also in social studies, science, math, foreign language, and technical subjects. The Common Core standards will bring greater depth of understanding to key knowledge areas and greater mastery of skills, responding to the challenge that previous curricula have been a mile wide and an inch deep.

The Common Core State Standards

  • Are based on rigorous research.
  • Are aligned with college and workforce expectations.
  • Are clear, understandable and consistent.
  • Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills.
  • Are benchmarked to standards in other top performing countries so that all students are prepared to succeed in the global economy and society.
